Bring the Pain

Method Man

I came to bring the pain hardcore from the brain Let's go inside my astral plane Find out my mental, based on instrumental Records, hey, so I can write monumental Methods, I'm not the king But niggas is decaf, I stick 'em for the cream Check it, just how deep can shit get Deep as the abyss and brothers is mad, fish accept it In your Cross Colour clothes, you've crossed over Then got Totally Krossed Out and Kris Krossed Who the boss? Niggas get tossed to the side And I'm the dark side of the Force Of course it's the Method, Man from the Wu-Tang Clan I be hectic, and comin' for the head piece, protect it Fuck it, two tears in a bucket

Rhyme Scheme

Short, self-contained rhyme pockets (brain/plane, mental/instrumental/monumental, get/accept it) rather than one sustained sound, stitched together by a punning homophone chain on Cross/Krossed and a literal word-repeat callback (Methods...Method), with a looser slant-consonance cluster (boss/tossed/Force/course) closing the excerpt

Producer Notes

Rather than chaining one rhyme across the whole verse, Method Man strings together short 2-3 bar pockets (brain/plane, mental/instrumental/monumental, get/accept it) and bridges the gaps between them with devices other than pure rhyme: a punning homophone run on 'Cross' (Cross Colours, crossed over, Totally Krossed Out, Kris Kross) and a literal word-repeat callback ('Methods'...'Method'). The closing bars loosen into slant consonance (boss/tossed/Force/course, hectic/protect it/bucket) rather than a matched vowel, typical of the more conversational boom-bap cadence.
