Lupe Fiasco
What's a coffin with a scratched ceiling? And what's the talking without the matching feeling? As I hold the soul of the dead in the arms of the living And not to be facets, but just to be given Whatever we have is just to be hidden The history of man, the mystery of women And if I die, it'd be death by drowning In the bottom of the water while a seagull is clowning
Rhyme Scheme
Evolving mono-rhyme.
Producer Notes
Lupe demonstrates a mastery of 'Phonetic Drift.' He begins with the sharp, high-pitched /iː/ sound in 'Ceiling/Feeling,' then softens it into the relaxed /ɪ/ sound of 'Living/Given/Hidden/Women'. The true genius is the hidden mosaic rhyme: he bends the word 'Facets' to rhyme perfectly with the phrase 'Have is.'
